The Grande Traversée du Jura on foot

This hike starts at the Mont d’Or (1463 m). Magnificent panorama on the Alps which invites you to contemplate… you are in the Regional Natural Park of Haut-Jura. From spruce forests to green valleys, the itinerary evolves in this preserved area with a rich natural heritage. In Mouthe, a village well known for its harsh winters, you arrive at the source of the river that gave its name to the department, the Doubs. Then, Chapelle des Bois, its Combe and its two lakes, nestled between the forest of Mont-Noir and the cliffs of Risoux. In Les Rousses, let us tell you the story of the Massacre forest before you cross it and imagine the bird that lives here, because if you walk on its territory, you have little chance of coming across it. The capercaillie which still lives in our forests… discreet and emblematic animal. Its presence is the result of a preserved natural environment, heritage of a natural and rustic mountain…
