The Transgaumaise with the mountain bike

The Transgaumaise mountain bike tour is a splendid 148 km loop that takes you through the Gaume region, also known as “Belgium’s Little Provence” thanks to its sunny microclimate. It takes you on nature trails through some of the most beautiful villages in Belgian Lorraine, such as Torgny. You’ll also pass through France and discover some of the region’s treasures, such as the Notre-Dame d’Avioth basilica.

The trip begins in the heart of the Gaume region, in a small village near Virton (Belgium). You ride your mountain bike at your own pace and in complete freedom for a 148 km loop that can be completed in 2 or 3 stages. Stop off along the way to visit the Montmédy citadel, the Avioth church or the Renaissance houses in the village of Marville. Enjoy one of the world’s best beers with cheese after your visit to Orval Abbey.

The Transgaumaise mountain bike trail is a magnificent tour for lovers of a change of scenery: GPX tracks, quality accommodation, luggage transport and information on the region. Everything is planned so that you can make the most of the region and its beauties.

Free mountain biking – Variable duration from 3 to 4 days – Departures all year round according to your availability and possibilities.

Day 2

Latour (Virton) – Villers-devant-Orval (68 km; +1183 m)
For this first stage, you leave the hotel after breakfast for one of Wallonia’s most beautiful villages, Torgny, which you reach at km 25. Be careful, the beginning of the stage is quite hilly. You then cross the French border to Montmédy, a town overlooked by a medieval castle. You continue the day on footpaths to the village of Avioth and its splendid basilica, finishing with a tasting of one of Belgium’s best beers at Orval Abbey.

Possibility of shortening the stage to 54 km by taking the road between the villages of Velosnes and Villécloye.

Day 3

Villers-devant-Orval – Lacuisine (40 km; + 468 m)
This stage is relatively short but really splendid. You leave Orval to cross the border and will stay in France for the first 15 kilometres. Back in Belgium, the trail takes you to the heart of the Semois Valley National Park. You’ll follow the meandering river through a series of pretty villages: Sainte-Cécile, Chassepierre,… At the end of the stage, you arrive at Lacuisine, a small village on the banks of the Semois a few kilometers from Florenville.

Day 4

Lacuisine – Latour (Virton) (40 km; + 487 m)
This final stage is not long, but it does include a fairly steep climb out of Meix-devant-Virton at around km 25. First you leave Lacuisine and head for Izel and Jamoigne, staying on the Gaume high plateau, then head south into the Gaume Nature Park. As you approach Virton, you branch off to get to your car at the end of the route. Congratulations on completing a 148 km mountain bike loop. Possibility of an extra night before leaving.
