The Ardennes on foot: Les Vallées de l’Ourthe et du Laval
Star-shaped 105-km hike in the Two Ourthes Nature Park
Roam through the Ardennes on foot! The Ourthe and Laval Valleys Trail is a star-shaped hike covering 105 kilometres. Along this route you can explore Sainte-Ode in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. Spend five days hiking in particular through the villages and hamlets of the commune of Sainte-Ode, between countryside and forest. This stay in the Two Ourthes Nature Park is an unmissable part of hiking tourism in Wallonia!
This five-day hike in the Ardennes stands out as it can take the shape of a star, starting and finishing in the same place (Beauplateau). So you will not have to worry about carrying luggage.
Following these five waymarked routes of between 17 and 27 km, you will be able to discover the marvels of Sainte-Ode, nestling in the heart of the province of Luxembourg. You will cross the hamlets and villages in the commune, including Lavacherie, Tillet, Amberloup and Sprimont. This hike also provides an opportunity to find out about the fungi that thrive in the meadows and undergrowth and lend their names to these walks.
These stages are the best way to discover the forest trails and the local culture of the Belgian Ardennes. What is more, this permanent circuit is recognised by the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) and by the Fédération Francophone Belge des Marches Populaires (FFBMP).

Day 1 : welcome at the end of the day in Sainte-Ode
Day 2 : Le sentier de la Girolle : 17,820 km
To start your hike, we suggest the ‘Girolle Trail’: this route does not present any major difficulties apart from two long slopes. It crosses about a dozen villages and hamlets without any woods or forests, so you hike ‘under the open sky’. Be sure that you have the appropriate gear.
Day 3 : Le sentier du Cèpe de Bordeaux : 26,790 km
For this second day’s hike, you take the ‘GTA 2’ route. It follows the Girolle trail for five kilometres before breaking away onto the country lane to Amberloup. It then goes through the village of Lavacherie and heads to Chapelle de la Bonne Dame before crossing the forest of Freyr towards Tonny and Tillet. This is a very varied route that runs largely through forest.
Day 4 : Le sentier de l’Agaric : 17,810 km
On day 4 you hike along the most varied route. The ‘Agaric trail’ is partly covered, partly out in the open, following roads and field paths alternately. It offers superb views of the four villages crossed.
Day 5 : Le sentier de la Lépiote : 25,550 km
From a visual point of view, this ‘GTA 5’ circuit is the most enjoyable. You hike in the Laval valley, maintaining your pace as you explore nine villages. The distance covered by this day’s stage requires endurance, rewarded by a pastoral landscape.
Day 6 : Le sentier du Coprin : 16,270 km
To end your hiking stay in the Ourthe and Laval Valleys, you take the shortest route along the permanent circuit. As far as Morhet, it largely passes through woods. You then go through two villages and a hamlet before reaching Beauplateau. End of the hike.
